Multi-Purpose Gadgets Beyond Sous Vide
Amazon's Choice | CMF & Cost Optimisation
To extend the product line beyond the hero sous vide, Greater Goods introduced a range of accessories—weights and magnets available in three colour options. These accessories offer versatility beyond sous vide cooking: the high-quality magnets can also serve as needle collectors, and the weights can be used as trivets for hot pots. I led product development, oversaw material selection and CMF (colour, material, finish), improved surface resistance to scratches and dust, and reviewed samples to ensure the product met internal standards prior to launch. The product launched on Amazon in 2023 and received the Amazon’s Choice label.

Major Challenges: 1. Ensure the sample color is consistent with the same series of products. 2. Reduce the overall price and maintain the expected magnetic effect 3. Improve the surface quality of silicone

Based on the basic design, I offered CMF design for the magnet and weight series. To keep the desirable magnetic ( good support for lifting vacuumed bag in the sink but also not to worry about detaching the pile of stuck magnets), and cost-down price. I cooperated with the sourcing team to find the suitable neodymium magnet and adjusted the dimensions of the silicone covering, to ensure the expected result.

During the proofing process, I also adjusted the mold to ensure the debossed logo remained consistent with existing kitchen products. Additionally, the silicone surface of the first prototype was prone to scratches and dust. To address this issue, I recommended the supplier sand the mold and apply silicone oil, resulting in a perfect finish.

Beyond sous vide, the magnets' compact form and finish make them practical for everyday kitchen use — from organising utensils to acting as refrigerator holders.
